  • SIV experience
  • Thermalling experience

About the trip

We plan to fly Kobala (Tolmin), a world famous competition site. Along with Stol, a beautiful XC favourite further down the Stol ridge west towards the Italian border.

This week is designed to introduce the skills you need to start clocking up your XC kilometres, from making decisions in the air, to choosing a landing field. We’ll help you improve your thermalling so you can stay up and start joining up thermals. We’ll introduce you to the local weather patterns and you’ll start understanding how to plan and fly XC.

Trip schedule

On arrival you’ll be picked up and driven to our accommodation based on the outskirts of Kobarid. Arrival day will consist of briefings, kit checks and our first dinner together as a group.

After breakfast we start with a morning’s weather and plan our flying route for the day. We usually fly late mornings, depending on the weather and where we want to fly. If the weather allows, we fly until dusk or beer time.

Flights

Flights are TBC but we are likely to fly into either Venice, Trieste or Lubljana airport.

Accommodation

Our scenic accommodation is based on the outskirts of Kobarid, meters away from Napoleon’s Bridge, the town’s most historical landmark. Kobarid hosts our main landing field along with plenty of bars and restaurants for you to grab a cold pint after your days flying.
