Is it for you?

The week is suitable for new pilots who are looking to build their thermalling skills or for more experienced pilots who want a chilled out week exploring one of the Alps’ most beautiful flying areas.

About the trip

Thermalling is the magic ingredient when it comes to flying higher than you ever have before. As well as a natural progression for those wanting to fly cross country.

This trip is designed to improve your thermalling skills and introduce you to flying in the mountains. Along with building your confidence and generally getting as much airtime as possible.

To make sure everyone gets plenty of support and guidance, we’ve decided to run it with a small group. Meaning, with a high ratio of guides, you will get the very most out of your trip!

Our playground is in and around the Annecy valley – in the foothills of the Alps just 40km from Mont Blanc, Europe’s highest peak. The area has an abundance of launch options to choose from, giving us the best chance of always having somewhere to fly. While nowhere is ever guaranteed when it comes to the weather, being at the edge of the mountains gives it a highly flyable climate. There is plenty of opportunity to learn about mountain weather and flying without the strong valley winds and narrow valleys of the big mountains.

Trip schedule

We’ll arrive at the accommodation on Saturday afternoon with plenty of time to get set up ready to fly on Sunday.

After breakfast we start with a morning’s weather briefing and plan for the day. We usually fly late mornings, depending on the weather and where we want to fly. If the weather allows, we fly until dusk or beer time.

Flights

We fly in and out of Geneva airport, which is well served by Easyjet and other airlines.

We have excellent bed & breakfast accommodation with easy access to several flying sites and landing areas. Rooms are usually shared with one other pilot, but a limited number of single rooms are available on request (at a supplement).
