Is it for you?

This week is suitable for newer pilots looking to build solid thermalling skills, as well as more experienced pilots who want a relaxed week of flying in one of Italy’s premier thermalling hotspots, all without the pressure of going cross-country.

Our focus is to help you get higher, stay up longer, and feel totally comfortable sharing thermals with other pilots. Through a mix of guided flying and practical briefing, we’ll cover:

  • Finding & Centering Lift: Identifying thermal triggers, reading terrain, and finding the core.
  • Efficiency in the Sky: Sky-reading, active piloting, and tactics to maximize your altitude and stay up longer.
  • Thermal Etiquette & Team Flying: Building good airmanship and confidence while thermalling safely alongside other pilots.
  • Precision & Safety: Site briefings, line choices, and consistent, safe landing approaches.

About the trip

Come and progress your skills on our brand new trip to Bassano. A gentle ridge that hosts friendly launches, manageable lift and large grassy landing fields. A perfect destination for building confidence, thermalling for the first time and gaining airtime.

Monte Grappa sits on the edge of the southern alps and hosts a variety of 7 launches, sloping all the way down to Bassano Del Grappa, our closest town on the valley floor. Our south facing ridge runs east and west, giving plenty of opportunities to catch thermals along the main spines that connect to the Italian plains; where you can spot the coast and on a clear day, Venice. Making this playground a perfect mixture of mountain and flatland flying.

Whilst nowhere is guaranteed good weather, Bassano’s micro-climate is often protected from the bad weather in the bigger mountains, making it a reliable place to fly.

Trip schedule

On arrival day after settling into our accommodation we’ll start with some briefings and kit preparations before heading out to dinner as a group.

The next morning after breakfast we’ll run through the weather and plan for the day before heading up to fly. We try to use as much of the flying window as possible so we are usually out all day. Finishing with a local aperol spritz to celebrate your days flying.

Requirements

  • CP rating
  • Own kit serviced to manufacture requirements, including a recently repacked reserve
  • For the safety of you and the group, we maintain a strict no-exceptions policy regarding flying currency

We fly into Venice airport which is only an hour’s drive away from our accommodation.
